How to cure or season a cast iron pan?

The Goal: Polymerization to create an impenetrable barrier! This can be done for curing or recuring a cast iron pan.

  1. Wash and clean the pan.
  2. Place in a cold oven at 200°F or lowest temperature until warm (~5 minutes).
  3. Take 1 teaspoon of oil and rub it everywhere on the pan, including the handle.
  4. Now rub it all off!
  5. Place pan mid-oven upside down.
  6. Turn oven on to it's normal highest heat (not self cleaning).
  7. Leave it in the oven for 1 hour.
  8. Turn off the heat and leave in oven until the pan is cool.
  9. All done! Repeat 2 more times for best results (not necessary).
